Doctor Reacts To WILD BuzzFeed Medical Videos

Check out Thrive Market here thrivemarket.com/DoctorMike and get 25% off your first order AND a free gift when you join today using my link!

Over the years the team at Buzzfeed has dipped their toes into the world of creating some medical videos. I have actually appeared in some of them, but today I wanted to take a look at what videos they’ve put out and see how accurate they are. A lot of their interviews with med students and nurses yield some very true stories and experiences of what it’s like to study medicine! Some of their other videos, such as how to fight off a cold… not so much. Today we’re debunking miracle cures like Apple Cider Vinegar, the value of a good nasal spray, how much coffee med students drink, and some nightmares that actual nurses have had to endure.

Never Have I Ever with Mama Doctor Jones: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iw72...

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

I’ve never understood studying all night it’s like pretending laws of diminishing returns doesn’t exist studying for hours on end usually isn’t that good for information retention then you add extreme sleep deprivation on top of that then go try and take a test completely exhausted. Better to study as much as you can and be rested.

The fever one with cold socks, I actually take the opposite path. I drink Fire Tonic and Green Ginger Wine (ginger makes my blood boil and the alcohol makes you sleep), then I wrap myself up (cocoon) in the thickest doona/blankets and sleep through the night while dripping in sweat. Fever and virus should be gone by morning.

Putting on wet socks is absolutely a solution in summer though in order to reduce your body temperature during tropic night climate when there is a lot of humidity in the air and it is hot as well. The amount of people dying in summer has been going through the roof in the past years and little tricks like that can absolutely save lifes.

Watch out with nose spray, lots of people are physically addicted to it and its very easy to get ADDICTED to it And some day the health of the nose is so bad that it smells so horrific you cant be in a room with anyone else (in Germany we call it "stinke nase") because of the extrem disgusting smell (hitler had this condition😂) and your social life ends mostly there….very sad storys for an over the counter medicine Thats why i as an addict of various substances (4 months clean exept weed once a week) stay away from nose spray Its not even worth it! there isnt even a slight high aside that your breathing improves a bit I hope my English is good enough for people to understand this text and it makes sense😂

Honey can induce botulism in babies and young kids. This is rare but if there is spore in it, it will start to grow inside the infant intestinal tract and will release toxin. When a kid reach 1 and above, the body had developed enough defense to protect itself from that kid of stuff, this is why it is not dangerous for those above 1 year old.

Probability was a 9 am and i sat in the front row and i fell asleep sooo many times. It had nothing to do with his class or his lecturing. I was a double stem major, double performing arts minor that did even more performing arts on top of that. Some nights were brutal... 9 am classes were just brutal to stay awake for, even a 10:30 class was rough.

Yeah, the honey. My mother's doctor recommended three teaspoons of honey a day to help with her cough instead of the OTC stuff she was taking daily and spending a lot on. She's hesitant to really do it three times a day because "the sugar!" but I'm like...your doctor recommended it! So she tries to remember, but at least she usually gets honey in the morning.

I went through college by stressing out at unseen levels and decided never to do that again. Went through university by studying for no more than 6 hours every day. Never failed an exam and scored above average. The key for me was not to stress and I think I gained more from those 6 hours than I would do if I stressed for 10, 12 or 15 hours.

Yes, you want to let it cough during the day. But it gets frustrating when you are coughing so much you can't sleep. And sleep is important for your immune system, right? So isn't it okay to suppress the cough at night so you can sleep? I guess there are maybe some people who can sleep with a cough. But I'm a light sleeper who is kept awake by just about everything. If I'm coughing, I won't be able to sleep.

3 herbal remedies for people to know tea and honey more honey, more cough drop effect helps with cough and a sour throat strong or extra strong mint teas works well for a stuffy nose in combo with the steam avoid honey if you're trying to use a strong mint tea for clearing your nose a bit sap from trees sticky sap that's hard to remove after a good wash on a wound can, in fact, avoid infection just remember to make sure the sap is clean before use it will seal the wound and go away after a long period of time this is useful on a hike or in a remote area where you need to cover the wound before your able to get a bandaid, be sure that the sap is fresh as well

Doctor Mike, can you use your influence with Thrive Market to convince them to have a low sodium category? This would be huge for me as I try to get my blood pressure under control with diet and exercise. Thrive Market seems great, but I've found they fail in areas where it would give someone over age 50 a bit of grief. I totally understand the want and need to market to the younger demographic, but they could be really great if they would just consider that a lot of older individuals have more disposable income and a greater need to eat healthier.

My grandma would always force her CRAZY "solutions" onto me whenever I was sick! The most memorable was her laying me in bed and she insisted that she put my hands and feet in 4 bowls of very warm water, it was actually SUPER soothing and comfy. She put eucalyptus leaves in the water too and had a steaming cloth soaked in eucalyptus water and put that over my eyes and forehead... I started to drift off to sleep finally, after being so restless and achey, I felt so amazingly warm and great..... I was drifting into sleep when my grandma says "Okay, I'm going to put more hot water, okay?" and I'm veryyyyyy sleepy and sinking into a deep sleep and mumble "Okay..." zSssSSHSHZHhshzhssSSssS COLD SHOCK RUNS UP THROUGH MY BONES AND I JUMP UP AND SCREAM and look fast and she's PUTTING MY FEET INTO WATER WITH ICE CUBES and I'm like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!" And she says "You need to put cold water!! It helps your circulation! It makes your blood JUMP" (she has "okay" English) I just ran out of there and didn't trust her after that. Another time, like last year I had a sore throat and she gave me a shot of tumeric and orange juice... It tasted like a Mexican candy actually so I liked it and it DID help right away, but crazy stuff lol. Another thing that was helpful though and stuck with me was having a lemon cut in half and putting honey on it and eating into it with a spoon. It's so delicious and reminds me of childhood.

I remember, when I was a kid, Jose Feliciano was on a talk show and he was asked what he did when he would get a cold. He said that he would eat spicy foods. I looked it up and found out that foods like jalapeño peppers contained a decongestant type chemical. Now when I start to get congested, I will get some jalapeños added to a pizza.
